Castles of Central Ireland

Adare, Rock of Cashel, Kilkenny Castle

May the sun shine warm upon your face . . .
Leaving Dingle we traveled east through County Limerick.  On the bus, Pascal, our guide, challenged us to a Limerick contest.  A Limerick is a five line poem where lines 1,2,5 rhyme and 3,4 rhyme. My submission is below:
PictureRide to Adare, Limerick County

There once was a tour run by Rick Steves,
Where not a soul had pet peeves,
If you made a big fuss,
You were pushed off the bus,
And blown off the isle into big seas.

Adare

Adare is a small town in Limerick County.  It is known as one of the prettiest towns in Ireland.  I loved the colorful buildings with their stone fronts, planter boxes, and ivy.

Rock of Cashel

Located in the heart of southern Ireland the Rock of Cashel makes an impressive site presiding over the green lands below.

St. Patrick's Cross
Picture
According to legend St. Patrick came to the Rock of Cashel in 432 AD.  He baptized King Aengus, who became the first Christian ruler in Ireland.  The original St. Patrick's cross is preserved in a museum at the site.  A replica presides in its original site on the grounds.  The Celtic Cross found in the graveyards throughout Ireland are sometimes interpreted as a combination of the Sun god of the old religion with the Christian cross of the new religion.

Kilkenny Castle and Kilkenny City Walk

Kilkenny is a known for its medieval castles and architecture.  We stayed overnight in a quirky hotel called the Club House that totally met my expectations for a Rick Steves Tour.  It had unusual up and down staircases that went round and round in the center of the facility.  The staff was helpful and the rooms were older but clean.  I enjoyed its uniqueness because it created laughs and fun.
